chiropractic care in San Jose for car accident injury.jpgHave you suffered a car accident injury? If you have lingering back pain, neck pain, headaches and migraines, or other pain and discomfort, let our chiropractor treat you. At Insight Chiropractic in San Jose, Dr. Jennifer Forster can help with pain management, as well as rehabilitation.

3 Common Injuries Sustained in Car Accidents

Any type of car accident, even a "fender bender," can leave you with injuries that result in lingering neck and back pain. These are three of the most common types of car accident injury:

1- Whiplash is one of the most frequent injuries, typically resulting in neck pain, which also triggers or exacerbates headaches and migraines. This injury occurs because of the accident's impact, causing a person's head to jerk violently forward, and then backward. The result is typically misaligned vertebrae, and strained or torn neck and upper back muscles and ligaments.

2-Head injuries are another common result of car accidents, ranging from cuts and bruises, to severe damage such as Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI). Any head injury typically triggers headaches and migraines.

3-Back injuries, including spinal cord damage, are also among the top injuries. These may include pinched nerves, herniation, bulged discs, and fractures, all of which cause back pain.

How Chiropractic Care Can Help

If you have never received chiropractic care to help with pain management and rehabilitation following a car accident, then consider how a chiropractor can relieve your pain and restore you to wellness.

One of the first treatments for your injury is a spinal adjustment to realign vertebrae. Dr. Forster follows up with massage therapy to ease soreness and tension in muscles and ligaments. After this, corrective exercises will help you with pain management and rehabilitation.

Please call us today at if you have questions or would like to make an appointment with our San Jose chiropractor. We look forward to serving you and helping you recover from your car accident injury.

If you have recently been in a car accident, what type of injury did you suffer? What kind of treatment have you received so far and did it help you?

Understanding the Source of Back Pain

Posted on 2012-03-14 10:15:22

back pain relief through San Jose chiropractor.jpgSevere or chronic back pain can affect people of any age, from teenagers to senior citizens. Here at Insight Chiropractic, our San Jose chiropractor, Dr. Forster, has years of experience treating patients with a number of back related problems. We believe that whole body health comes from the feet up, which is why Dr. Forster makes it a practice to care for patients' feet as thoroughly as the rest of their body.

Back Pain Wellness Through Chiropractic Care

Your spine is at the center of your being, and almost every movement you make affects the feeling in your back. Chiropractic care acknowledges this connection between all the parts of your body and treats your body as one whole entity. The method of treatment we use depends on the source of your pain.

When the base of the sciatic nerve is pinched or has pressure put on it, it can cause extreme pain in your lower back. This pain can shoot down your legs to your heel, causing debilitating foot pain that can keep you off your feet. The reason for this pain is often a slipped disc that allows the end of the sciatic nerve to be caught between two bony plates. When the nerve gets pinched, it causes pain that travels down the body.

Your back wellness can be compromised by damage to the discs themselves. Discs are soft cushions that sit between the vertebrae in your spine. If these discs bulge or rupture, the resulting lack of cushioning can cause bone to rub on bone, or the bone to press on nerves. This can cause chronic back pain that can last for years if it's not treated. Scoliosis is a condition that causes your spine to curve to one side, which can cause back pain.

Whether you use our San Jose chiropractor as a regular sports medicine doctor or regularly consult with her about your feet, be assured that she can help with any number of back related problems.

What was the cause of your last severe back problem?

Sports Medicine for Injuries: Treatment, Rehabilitation and Prevention

Posted on 2012-02-14 14:34:11

San Jose chiropractor implements sports medicine.jpgWhether you are a longtime professional athlete or just someone who enjoys keeping fit through a favorite sport, you are probably no stranger to sports injuries. But while these injuries can curtail your enjoyment of your favorite sports, the right care can help you get back on the track, court or field. Sports medicine devotes itself to the healing and rehabilitation of such injuries -- and fortunately for San Jose athletes, we practice it right here at Insight Chiropractic. We not only perform the necessary treatments to help your body heal itself naturally, but we can even help you reduce the chance of a recurrence.

Sports injuries can involve your skeletal system, muscles, nerves and connective tissues. Poor vertebral alignment, for instance, can cause unequal wear and tear on a runner’s knees and feet, displace discs and pinch nerves. These issues may cause sciatica, back pain, foot pain, joint deterioration and other career-threatening injuries. The same spinal misalignment can also make you more vulnerable to muscle strains, sprains or torn ligaments. Overused muscles are subject to a wide range of problems, including acute injuries, micro-trauma (small accumulated tears in muscle fibers) and oxygen starvation.

How Our San Jose Chiropractor Can Help

At Insight Chiropractic, we have considerable experience in treating and rehabilitating sports injuries. Our chiropractor, Dr. Forster, is an athlete who has treated a wide range of her fellow athletes, so she has first-hand knowledge of the special challenges sports pose to the human body. In addition to chiropractic adjustments that can restore your skeletal system to its normal balance, she offers Active Release Techniques that promote healing of injuries and the release of scar tissue from muscle overuse. We also offer massage therapy and general preventative care to help you regain and maintain your strength, flexibility and general wellness. If you would like to recover from a nagging sports injury or protect your body from future injuries, contact us for an appointment.

Our San Jose Chiropractor Talks Active Release Techniques

Posted on 2011-12-19 10:07:54

San Jose chiropractic treatements for back pain.jpgA type of technique that our San Jose chiropractor uses for back pain, foot pain, and other types of pain is Active Release Technique. Since our patients have been asking our chiropractic staff about what Active Release Technique is and how it works, we decided to make it our newest blog entry!

ART: Helping with Back Pain, Sports Medicine, and Rehabilitation

The Active Release Techniques, or ART, is a type of soft tissue system massage that is targeted at helping resolve pain issues with the muscles, tendons, ligament tissues, and nerves. Our chiropractor, Dr. Jennifer L. Forster, has been certified as an Active Release Techniques Practitioner since 2001 and is experienced at treating our chiropractic patients and sports medicine patients with this effective and gentle method of rehabilitation.

ART for Healing and Wellness

ART is an excellent treatment for both healing and for total wellness. During the initial phases of ART treatment, Dr. Forster will use gentle manipulation with her hands to evaluate the extent of the injury. She will then gently work the tissue using movements that will eliminate the scar tissue buildup, restore blood flow, and help restore range of motion.

In the later stages of treatment, the patient will become a very active participant in their own rehab process. Dr. Forster will guide patients through a series of prescribed exercises as she applies gentle pressure to the area being treated. This is a method of lengthening and strengthening the muscles and soft tissues of the body, but it does require the patient to be fully active in their own treatment.

We at Insight Chiropractic are very pleased to offer the best and most up-to-date chiropractic and wellness care treatments to our patients, and we are proud to have an ART practitioner here on staff to help deliver that to you. Do you have any further questions about ART? Please ask here!

Struggling With Your Diet? Our San Jose Chiropractor Can Help

Posted on 2011-11-03 13:19:20

San Jose chiropractor helps with nutrition and wellness goals.jpgYou might think that a chiropractor only concentrates on back or neck pain. However, chiropractors across the country, including Insight Chiropractic in San Jose, don't limit their treatment to only back pain. Instead, they take a whole health approach to treating their patients to increase wellness and promote long-term healthy living.

Patients come to chiropractors for a number of reasons. Some do come for the traditional reasons, back pain or neck pain. But others come because they're having trouble sleeping or are suffering from frequent headaches. Others are struggling to deal with stress. A talented chiropractor knows that there are several ways to treat these health issues; and one of the most important ways is to develop a healthy nutrition plan for their patients.

Nutrition Matters to Maintain Wellness

What you eat plays a big role in your health. It also plays a major role in the health of your back, neck and even pressure on your feet due to the different strains being overweight and unhealthy may cause. Simply put, if you eat unhealthy, fatty foods, you're more likely to suffer from back pain, fatigue, or put yourself at risk for other health issues including diabetes are heart disease.

If you're struggling with weight, consider moving to a diet filled with lean meats, fish, green vegetables, fruits and grains. Avoid that daily stop for a fast food drive-thru lunch or that late-night snack of ice cream.

Avoid foods that are high in fat or sugars. Replace them with equally tasty but far more nutritious greens, fish, lean poultry, fruits and nuts. You'll be amazed at how much more energy you have once you make the switch to a healthier diet.

If you're struggling with your diet or want help in reaching your wellness goals, make an appointment with our San Jose chiropractor. We serve residents in Los Gatos, Saratoga, Cupertino and Campbell and, of course, San Jose. Our wellness professionals will work closely with you to develop a nutrition plan that fits your lifestyle and needs. And if you follow this plan carefully, you'll be surprised at how much better you feel. You'll be amazed, too, at how quickly this change takes place.

Look at your diet from the past week. What could you have done differently to have consumed less fat and fewer calories?
